Intrinsic Mind is founded on the certainty that experiencing solitude in nature can make a fundamental contribution to personal fulfillment and mental health.

Mission

Intrinsic Mind’s mission is to serve artists, writers, and all contemplatives, and to nurture and protect opportunities for the experience of solitude in wild land settings, and offer appropriate accommodations to creative individuals seeking meaningful retreat experiences.

Intrinsic Mind’s intention is to conserve the lands that support creative solitude retreat for all who seek personal insight and mental clarity, on which human endeavor must depend in order to be sustainable.

Purpose

I*M’s purpose is to encourage and foster mindfulness, critical thinking, innovation, natural creativity, appropriate action, and emotional balance.

Goals

Primarily to promote, guide and sponsor the development of creative-solitude retreat centers adjacent to wilderness lands, as well as near urban centers, through a membership of individuals and institutions, an association of appropriate retreat facilities, and a land-trust endowment patterned after The Nature Conservancy, aimed at a sane, sustainable world.

Dedication

Intrinsic Mind is dedicated to the advancement of education and science about consciousness, focusing on the principles of contemplative meditation that clarify basic understandings with clear thinking.

The organization is especially focused on the elimination of prejudice, discrimination and intolerance, and to promoting compassionate, ethical conduct and the inherent rights of all beings.

Intrinsic Mind will pursue these goals without dogma, taking advantage of many established methods from various scientific and spiritual disciplines, and seeking to identify the underlying fundamentals of experience and knowledge that are useful to anyone seeking clarity of mind and authentic engagement in the world.

How do we achieve this mission? It will be through the dedicated efforts and help of our many partners: from individuals, nonprofits, charitable foundations, and corporations. And it will be by using a non-confrontational, collaborative approach and staying true to our unique core values. That’s how Intrinsic Mind will do more than anyone alone to advance wild-land conservation supporting the creative-solitude experience in North America and around the world.

Values

Today’s society faces unprecedented challenges. Dwindling natural resources, precarious economies, a rapidly changing climate and other threats require that each of us begin thinking and imagining so we can work together to reach common solutions. Our vision is to contribute toward a sustainable clarified mindset for future generations. Since our founder envisioned wilderness retreats for creative people in 1971, a steady intention moves I*M further toward fruition.

More than ever before, we must find innovative ways to ensure that nature can continue to provide the heartfelt inspiration, and, of course, the food, clean water, energy and other services, that our growing population depends upon for survival.

Now is a time of opportunity. A time to move conservation from the sidelines of global priorities to the center of the world stage—because human well-being depends on a healthy inner life, as well as a wholesome relationship to a diverse environment.
